2025 annual reportLubuto celebrated our 20th anniversary as a registered nonprofit last year. Twenty years have demonstrated both the immense potential and strong demand for libraries addressing the needs of all children and youth in Zambia. As we begin a new chapter, we invite you to read our 2025 annual report, which includes a selection from the 300+ Voices of Lubuto.
Templeton research articleWe recently published an article with American University Professor of Psychology Anthony Ahrens and Dr. Millicent Curlee based on our Templeton World Charity Foundation research project in Health Education Journal. Read "Effects of a novel youth sexual and reproductive health programme in Zambia: An experimental study" here:
Our general objective with the research was to see if merging a standard sexual and reproductive health program with a stories-based mentoring program focused on character would be effective. We compared the international evidence-based Stepping Stones program, that had been adapted for use in Zambia, to a program that added Lubuto Mentoring to the Stepping Stones program. We tested whether the merged program led to increases in knowledge, confidence for handling challenging situations, and well-being. The research – conducted by Lubuto library staff with youth who came to our libraries – concluded that the novel program was effective in increasing knowledge about sexual and reproductive health, confidence in navigating challenging situations and adolescent well-being.
