Kids (ages 6-11)
This age group is primarily served by our Reading Room—and its collection—and the Tech Hub. All Lubuto libraries feature these two buildings.
The Reading Room has always been the heart of Lubuto libraries and is the main place for enjoying and accessing our great book collections, including a collection of Braille books. This is where children really get a start in group and independent reading. Spokes formed by shelves of books in the Reading Room converge at the Talking Circle in the center. The Talking Circle brings kids together and serves as the perfect venue for programs such as mentoring.
The Tech Hub houses desktop computers and other technology for children—giving them access to LubutoLiteracy early grade reading lessons in Zambia’s even major languages, instructional videos developed by Zambia’s Ministry of General Education to teach the secondary school curriculum to out-of-school learners, a curated portal of educational digital resources and more.
