From Lubuto Library Walls
You’ve likely seen photos of Lubuto’s renovated and expanded library and training center in Garden, Lusaka.
What you may not have seen are the many vibrant murals on its walls that highlight books we love in Lubuto collections.
This is one approach to sparking children’s interest in reading some of the world’s favorite picture books that they will find in the library.
We hope they spark your interest in reading some of these books with children in your life too!
Another, a story without words by Christian Robinson: A young girl and her cat take an imaginative journey into another world.
Frog and Toad are Friends, Days with Frog and Toad and several other Frog and Toad books by Arnold Lobel:
Frog and Toad are always there for each other—just as best friends should be!
Little Beauty by Anthony Browne: When a gorilla who knows sign language tells his keepers that he is lonely, they bring him a very special friend.
Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems: Gerald is careful. Piggie is not. Piggie cannot help smiling. Gerald can.
Gerald worries so that Piggie doesn’t have to. Gerald and Piggie are best friends.
This is Not My Hat by Jon Klassen: A little fish thinks he can get away with stealing a hat.
Jon Klassen has inscribed a number of his great books for the children at Lubuto libraries.
Tales from Moominvalley by Tove Jansson: In a collection of stories, readers will discover how the Moomin family spend their first Christmas out of hibernation,
how they save young Ninny from permanent invisibility, and what happens when Moomintroll catches the last dragon in the world.
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein: A young boy grows to manhood and old age experiencing the love and generosity of a tree which gives to him without thought of return.
