Book collections & other learning resources
Comprehensive library collections—along with public-access computers, educational tablets and other accessible technology—open up worlds of ideas and possibilities to the children and youth who visit Lubuto Libraries.
Lubuto Libraries provide comprehensive, balanced library collections of expertly selected and organized children’s books that are actively managed by library staff in response to community needs. The collections provide a gateway to acquiring and improving literacy and knowledge that serves the needs of the entire range of library users. Lubuto collections include the best and most innovative literature for young people, including books reflecting special focuses on gender equity and disability awareness.
Lubuto library technology unlocks key educational and cultural opportunities to all users. An online library portal features electronic resources chosen to complement and enrich Lubuto collections. Lubuto’s All Children Reading Grand Challenge-winning LubutoLiteracy lessons, an extensive series of computer-based reading lessons in each of the 7 major Zambian languages, provides a path to reading for out-of-school children. The Zambia Heritage Library is a digital repository of out-of-print materials. The libraries also offer computer access to Zambian curriculum content, along with instructional videos developed by Zambia’s Ministry of General Education to teach the secondary school curriculum to out-of-school learners. Interactive English-language reading instruction is offered through an evidence-based software package for English Language Learners.
