The U.K. charity Book Aid International has cheered the
progress of the Lubuto Library Project for several years and most recently donated a large number of its “Bringing Books
to Life – Using Books in the Classroom” publication to distribute to teachers who come to our libraries to learn more
about reading aloud to children.
During National Library Week each year since 2007, the library at Bryan Cave LLP has raised funds
through a book sale and direct donation for the Lubuto Project, and has thus far raised over $3,000 to support our work.
Children’s Book Council

International Board on Books
for Young People In partnership with the Zambia Library Association, Lubuto
founded a Zambian chapter of IBBY, the Zambia Board on Books for Young People (ZBBY).
We will work together in the coming years to promote the creation of excellent,
beautifully illustrated bilingual Zambian children’s books.

Center for the Book Lubuto is a ‘Reading Promotion Partner’ of the Center for the
Book, whose annual meetings have connected us with some of our key partners.
One Laptop Per Child Association,
Inc. provided us with 10 XO laptops to introduce to the children using
the first Lubuto Library. The Lubuto OLPC Development Group devised a plan and
documentation for that introduction, communicating through a wiki created by Lucy Leggiero. Lubuto high school
volunteers successfully introduced the XO laptops at the first Lubuto Library in February 2009.

Chapter of SLA have gotten directly involved with the building and shipping of Lubuto Library collections,

U.S. Board on Books for Young People
When Kent Brown was President of USBBY, he raised funds from its membership that allowed Lubuto’s U.S. and Zambian team to come together for the first time at the International Board on Books for Young People 2004 Congress in Cape Town, South Africa, and introduce Lubuto to the world. Since then, USBBY has generously supported establishment of the Zambian Board on Books for Young People, sponsored jointly by the Lubuto Project and the Zambia Library Association. They also provided a grant to support an October 2010 workshop given in Lusaka and Nabukuyu by Anne Pellowsky.
