J & J Designs San Francisco created for us lovely scarves incorporating the traditional tree and elephant symbols that decorate the first Lubuto library. We are selling the 100% pure silk Crepe de Chine 12” x 48” scarf for US$60 including tax, plus $5 for shipping and insurance.

The scarves are currently available in four colorways:

Black and white
Red and white
Green
Golden browns

The tree and elephant symbols depicted on our scarves are indigenous to the eastern province of Zambia, and reflect the culture of the community that Lubuto serves. Created by traditional artists in Lusaka, the tree and elephant ornament the outside walls of the first Lubuto library. The motifs were carefully chosen so that our children and youth would see our library as an extension of their community, a connection with their roots, and a place where they are very welcome and belong.
