Michael Borababy, Green Acres School 8th grader -- remarks at KIDS JUST LIKE YOU film premiere at Edmund Burke School, May 23, 2006

Michael Borababy speaking

Hello, ladies and gentlemen. As Jane said, my name is Michael Borababy and I have known about the Lubuto project for three years now, and I have had a wonderful time working on it. Jane asked me to speak about my experiences with the project. One thing really stuck with me throughout my volunteer work with Lubuto. Yes, I felt good helping kids just like me. Yes, I did love helping people I don’t know directly. Yes, I enjoyed being part of a movie that’s going to be shown nationwide, and yes, I like saying I know someone who met Bono and Faith Hill. But those aren’t the things that stuck with me the most. The thing that impressed me most was the drive and determination that the Meyers’ have shown for this project. Day and night, they have worked on it. Jane has spent restless nights figuring out how to show this problem to the whole world, and succeeded by making this movie. Henry and Penelope have gotten students from their schools thoroughly involved in Lubuto and have made sure that the youth understands the problems of the street kids. I don’t know the extent of what Ken does, but then again, I’m just a volunteer actor, but I’m sure he does plenty for the project as a whole. I just think this family is the most amazing one that I know. I really hold them in the highest regard and esteem, and I think I speak for everybody when I say the world would be a much better place if there were more people like you. I hope you enjoyed the film..
